Amigas De Toronto – Circle of Friends

The Amigas, Circle of Friends, is a century old tradition passed down from mother to daughter in celebrating friendship. The Amigas De Toronto is an annual event put on by a group of dedicated women to raise funds to help the fight against Breast Cancer.

It was founded by Angela Machado 12 years ago, with the first party only having about 150 guests. This year there was over 1,100 women in attendance who graciously did their part in making donations for such a great cause. Since Machado began this venture, The Amigas De Toronto have donated over $433,000 over 12 years.

This year’s goal was $70,000, a target they achieved with the help of many people. But that’s not what they raised on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. Instead, The Amigas De Toronto will be donating $75,000 raised at this year’s event to the Breast Cancer Foundation at the Princess Margaret Hospital.

There was dinner served by Cabral Catering, dancing and live music featuring Henrik Cipriano and conjunto Mexe Mexe. Clara Abreu, Anchor and Reporter for OMNI News: Portuguese Edition, also lent a hand by hosting the evening. There were door prizes, raffles and silent auctions, with all proceeds being donated in support of the Princess Margaret Hospital. All printing, including menus and the event programs were done by Mach 2 Press.

Next year’s event has already been booked for January 25th and will be held at Local 183 Union Hall (1263 Wilson Ave., Toronto).
